Jonathan Shin (3L) Law Clerk at Stephens Friedland LLP

Stephens Friedland would like to congratulate our law clerk, Jonathan Shin, for winning his first case. Jonathan, who is currently in his third year of law school at Chapman, obtained an INA 212(c) waiver before immigration Judge Latimore of the Los Angeles Immigration Court.

His client faced deportation based on a felony he committed approximately 20 years ago. His client pleaded guilty for a reduced sentence, which unbeknownst to him, still left him at risk for deportation due to his status as an aggravated felon.

Under the supervision of a licensed attorney, Jonathan successfully argued that his client was (1) eligible for a waiver from deportation and (2) that his client was a worthy candidate for the exercise of the court’s discretion and should receive the waiver. On September 11, 2015, the court agreed.

Jonathan’s victory was featured on the cover of OC Weekly. Jonathan is on his way to becoming a promising trial attorney. We are all very proud of Jonathan and we are happy to have him as a member of the Stephens Friedland family.
